Yesterday we went to lunch at another fabulous vegetarian restaurant, El Granero De Lavapies. They have a set Menu De Dia for 10 euro.

Gazpacho!

Garlicky, pesto quinoa and lentils

Mixed vegetables and seitan

Afterward, we went to Madrid’s beautiful botanic garden.

Some bushy plants we thought looked Dr. Seuss-esque

The botanic garden is right next to the Prado. The Prado is FREE Tuesday through Saturday after 6. There is a overwhelming amount of art in the Prado. Frequently you have no idea where things are, what to look at, what you are looking at when you find something that catches your eye, etc. However, there are some amazing pieces of art and it is definitely worth a long visit.

I discovered I love Hieronymus Bosch! I can’t believe I have never heard of him. Susanne and I really enjoyed The Garden of Earthly Delights.

After a late siesta, we ate at Maoz Vegetarian. An all vegetarian fast food restaurant with falafel and salads.

Coke Light: “I light it!”

We checked out some night life spots including La Via Lacteria, Tupperware, and La Catrina Coronita. La Catrina Coronita is a super adorable, campy mexican-themed bar with little toys every where (including a Woody Allen figurine…random), art by Dr. Larka and other mexican themed art.

As we walked around, we noticed little cardboard stands on street corners where people sold cerveza. In plaza groups of friends sat on blankets with six packs and wine and drank and talked the night away. Oh, did I mention it doesn’t get dark until about 10:15 in Madrid in July. No wonder everyone stays up so late!

I’m so glad you’re blogging your trip. It’s fun to see what you’re up to. I think those bushy flowers are Alliums. They are in the onion family, and I have some in my garden. 🙂

Looks like you’re having loads of fun!
